At XS4ALL, we wanted to backup our NetApp fileservers with Amanda.
However, the netapp doesn't run amandad or any of the other required programs, and performing backups via NFS isn't an option either.
Our solution was to install a wrapper around /sbin/dump and fool the machine into believing /dev/netapp1/vol/vol0 is in fact a disk device that you can run dump on.
So far, we had two revisions of this software. The first revision uses a setuid script. This is unsafe if untrusted persons have access to the machine performing the dumps. You can download the amanda-netapp-dump-0.1.tar.gz distribution, or look at the individual files.
The second revision doesn't use setuid, but is not currently online. Get back soon and check again.
